Inspiration

There are so many beautiful crochet things out there at the moment I just cannot seem to decide what to try next! Between pintrest, Facebook and various blogs there are just so many ideas floating around my head that I can’t seem to get them down fast enough and there just aren’t enough hours in the day to try them all!

So I was wondering, how do you all decide what to try next? Do you look for something that can be made from your stash of yarn or something brand new so that you can go shopping for new yarns? Do you find inspiration strikes while you are in the middle of a project? Do you keep a journal of your ideas so that you can come back to them later?

I try to keep a pad close by at all times because I never know when a new idea is going to come to me. Last week I was asked to keep some small jars for my niece for her wedding when the idea struck that they would be pretty with little cotton covers. This ended up with me scribbling some little ideas and coming up with a few filet patterns for the jars I had a bit of cotton lying around so tried a little prototype of one and this is what I came up with

image

It needs a little work but as a quick project while the idea was in many head it looks ok.

I also found a little flower pattern on pintrest (i think) and thought they were pretty so i made a few up and decided they would look nice on a headband

Which got me thinking about other headbands

And all this while still working on the floaty cardigans I blogged about earlier, which my friends seem to have gone a bit mad over!

image

I am also trying to work out this pattern…

image

It is one I was sent by a fellow crocheter but I am not very experienced with charts so I am slowly figuring it out and writing it down so that I can try it out when I have finished the other cardigans.

I also have some ideas for bags for the summer floating around in my head that I am trying to get down before they disappear again, so as you can see there is so much inspiration floating around that I am struggling to keep up especially as I only get a couple of hours a day to do some crocheting.

I am also trying to blog a little more as I always seem to forget to keep you updated on what I am up to but I promise to try harder.

Happy crocheting everyone

Hippy chicks…

Good evening all,

I know I haven’t blogged for a while but I have been super busy between looking after my boys and making lots of these…

image

This gorgeous hippy cardigan is from an old pattern (not sure when it was first printed) but has been given a revamp with some gorgeous multi colours. I have been making them with king cole riot yarn. It is lovely and soft and the colours are just striking. So far I have made 4, all in different riot colours and I love them all.

I have a few more to do before I get to do one for me so hopefully by then I may actually be able to make a decision and choose a colour!

The pattern can be found with instructions here http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/crocheting/clothing/crochet-bohemian-vest-stevie-nicks-style/59343

Happy Hooking all 🙂

Baby blankets

I have been going a bit mad on character baby blankets at the moment, it all started when my friend asked me to make her a cookie monster for her new baby which turned out quite well…

Image

Then another friend asked for Elmo…

Image

And of course once you start everyone wants one!! So far I have made 2 of each and even moved onto Animal..

Image

I have another Animal to make for my mini man when I get a spare few hours…which at the minute could be a while off!  I am currently working on yoda and have a big bird one to make (when I have drawn out a design).  Its getting to that time of year so lots of blankets for babies prams which is keeping me busy as well as hats, scarves and hotwater bottle covers.  Its just the way I like it!

Hope you are all keeping busy and don’t forget if there is anything you would like that I have made please pop over to see me at http://www.shellescozycrochet.co.uk

Cookie Monster

Good afternoon all

I have been busy making a blanket for my friends new baby, she asked for a cookie monster so I started sketching out some ideas

Image

This is the one that I decided to go with. It got a little fiddly with 5 balls of wool attached to it at one point but it looked like it was going ok

Image

Then I needed to add some eyes. I think they look better done as a round and added on later than being part of the pattern

Image

Once he was all done, I decided to make some cookies for the edge, so here is the finished blanket…I hope it is well loved 🙂

Hats, hats, hats…they’re everywhere!

I know, I know I haven’t been posting much but with a surprise trip to Milan thanks to my lovely hubby, my eldest being off school and my recent obsession with making hats along with lots of orders I haven’t had much chance for anything else!

I thought while I have a spare couple of minutes I would post you some pictures of the hats I have been making. First up is minions, I am sure you have noticed they are everywhere so I came up with this pattern for hats

ImageThen I was asked for one but with a pink trim so this is the result

ImageAnd then I went with a purple one…

Image

And from minions to angry birds

Image

Then I thought it was time to do something a little more grown up so I found a pattern from ELK studios and made this houndstooth hat

Imagebut then I wanted something a bit more fun so with my love of granny squares and bright colours I threw together this rainbow granny hat. I love it but my hubby thinks I am mad, what do you think?

Image

And so far that’s all the hats I have been making (if you take into account I have made around 15 minions so far!!) I think I am going a bit hat mad.  I have a couple of other ideas for new hats too which I will try to get made up when I get another spare hour or two!

If you would like to take a look at any of my other creations come and take a look over on my facebook page http://www.facebook.com/shellescozycrochet

Busy Busy Busy…

I know I planned to post something at least once a week however I have been very busy! So its time to catch up a little.  I had a surprise trip to Devon at the end of June for my birthday, hubby decided to take me and our boys for an overnight stay at Lady’s mile caravan site in Dawlish, the weather was gorgeous and we all had a fantastic time 🙂

The trip down their was rather strange with our sat nav taking us down the tightest roads it could find for us!

Image

But once we got there it was worth it and we even saw some little baby black swans 🙂 Dawlish has the only colony of black swans in the UK

ImageSince then I have been playing catch up with lots of orders for friends, they all saw my satchel and wanted their own versions.  Each one has been different and it has definitely kept me busy

Then a little on the side leading from the roses, I moved onto butterflies which I made into bobbles for some little girls

Image

And I have made 2 hats which should be getting picked up on Thursday…

So as you can see, I have been busy busy busy!! I have 2 more bags to make yet too!
