Inspiration

There are so many beautiful crochet things out there at the moment I just cannot seem to decide what to try next! Between pintrest, Facebook and various blogs there are just so many ideas floating around my head that I can’t seem to get them down fast enough and there just aren’t enough hours in the day to try them all!

So I was wondering, how do you all decide what to try next? Do you look for something that can be made from your stash of yarn or something brand new so that you can go shopping for new yarns? Do you find inspiration strikes while you are in the middle of a project? Do you keep a journal of your ideas so that you can come back to them later?

I try to keep a pad close by at all times because I never know when a new idea is going to come to me. Last week I was asked to keep some small jars for my niece for her wedding when the idea struck that they would be pretty with little cotton covers. This ended up with me scribbling some little ideas and coming up with a few filet patterns for the jars I had a bit of cotton lying around so tried a little prototype of one and this is what I came up with

It needs a little work but as a quick project while the idea was in many head it looks ok.

I also found a little flower pattern on pintrest (i think) and thought they were pretty so i made a few up and decided they would look nice on a headband

Which got me thinking about other headbands

And all this while still working on the floaty cardigans I blogged about earlier, which my friends seem to have gone a bit mad over!

I am also trying to work out this pattern…

It is one I was sent by a fellow crocheter but I am not very experienced with charts so I am slowly figuring it out and writing it down so that I can try it out when I have finished the other cardigans.

I also have some ideas for bags for the summer floating around in my head that I am trying to get down before they disappear again, so as you can see there is so much inspiration floating around that I am struggling to keep up especially as I only get a couple of hours a day to do some crocheting.

I am also trying to blog a little more as I always seem to forget to keep you updated on what I am up to but I promise to try harder.

Happy crocheting everyone

Cookie Monster

Good afternoon all

I have been busy making a blanket for my friends new baby, she asked for a cookie monster so I started sketching out some ideas

Image

This is the one that I decided to go with. It got a little fiddly with 5 balls of wool attached to it at one point but it looked like it was going ok

Image

Then I needed to add some eyes. I think they look better done as a round and added on later than being part of the pattern

Once he was all done, I decided to make some cookies for the edge, so here is the finished blanket…I hope it is well loved 🙂

Busy Busy Busy…

I know I planned to post something at least once a week however I have been very busy! So its time to catch up a little.  I had a surprise trip to Devon at the end of June for my birthday, hubby decided to take me and our boys for an overnight stay at Lady’s mile caravan site in Dawlish, the weather was gorgeous and we all had a fantastic time 🙂

The trip down their was rather strange with our sat nav taking us down the tightest roads it could find for us!

Image

But once we got there it was worth it and we even saw some little baby black swans 🙂 Dawlish has the only colony of black swans in the UK

ImageSince then I have been playing catch up with lots of orders for friends, they all saw my satchel and wanted their own versions.  Each one has been different and it has definitely kept me busy

Then a little on the side leading from the roses, I moved onto butterflies which I made into bobbles for some little girls

Image

And I have made 2 hats which should be getting picked up on Thursday…

So as you can see, I have been busy busy busy!! I have 2 more bags to make yet too!

Flowers for summer

I don’t know about you but I love flowers and butterflies and bags in the summer!! So I have been combining my love of these and my crochet obsession (yes it is an obsession!) and come up with a few new designs.

I have been playing around with some filet crochet, I love how light and airy it is and this is what I came up with

Image

Then I moved onto flowers after I spotted a quick photo tutorial to make this flower on pintrest

Image

This led to lots of flowers like this of different sizes and liking bags it had to go onto one…

Image

Which led to accessories, so hairclips…

And now I am wondering where to go next but I have had a rather busy couple of days so having a rest this evening while I decide what to do next.  If you have any suggestions of what you would like to see please drop me a message, I am always open to suggestions 🙂

Hope you are all having a good week and I will post again when I think of something else to ramble on about!

Some things are worth the effort

I was asked to make a bolero for a friend, she knew what she wanted to the point of borrowing one from someone who had what she wanted but as it had been bought a few years earlier she was unable to go out and buy one…step in me

I had a look and thought, yes that looks ok. It should be fairly easy to make….hahahaha it was so fiddly but I got there in the end and have since made a second one.  Here is the finished one Image

If you would like to give it a go, it is fairly easy to make the patches.  You start with a ring, put your hook through and pull through the yarn, yarn over and pull yarn through.  Pull it through until you have a loop which fits around 2 fingers.

ImageMake 18 of these loops.  chain 5 between each loop to make the first patch.

When making the second patch, make the 18 loops but when you are making the chain 5 between the loops when you get to the 3rd chain loop through the 3rd chain on the previous patch so that the two are now attached.  (if that makes sense!!)  Attach the patches so that they lie in the required patternImage

Once you have the patches in the way you would like then you need to do the edging.  To do the edging 2sc between the loops of the patches, to straighten the edges between the patches chain 3 between the gaps between the patches.  Join to the beginning sc, chain 3 then complete 3 rows of double crochet around.

So there it is the finished article, do expect a little cursing and having to play around with positioning of the patches!
